The shade that looks best on you is rarely the one trending that month. It is the one that agrees with your undertone, and that takes about a minute to work out.
Find your undertone
Look at the inside of your wrist in daylight. Veins reading green means a warm undertone. Blue or purple means cool. If you genuinely cannot tell, you are neutral, and almost everything works.
Warm undertones
Corals, caramels, warm reds, gold chrome, brick. Anything with yellow or orange in it will look deliberate rather than accidental.
Cool undertones
Blue-based reds, berry, plum, silver chrome, true pink. A yellow-based nude will look grey on you, which is the single most common mismatch we see.
Nudes are not one colour
A nude is only a nude if it sits a shade or two from your own skin. Ordering “nude” without matching it to your hand is why people end up with a set that looks like plaster.
